A Parent's Guide to Childhood Vaccination

Vaccination helps protect children from serious infectious diseases and supports healthier communities. The recommended schedule is planned around the ages when children need protection most, so keeping an accurate vaccination record and attending doses on time is important.

Before the visit, tell the pediatrician about fever, current medicines, allergies or any reaction after a previous vaccine. Bring the child's vaccination record, dress the child comfortably and ask questions if any part of the schedule is unclear.

Mild pain, redness or a short fever can occur after some vaccines. Follow the doctor's after-care advice, encourage fluids and seek medical help promptly if your child develops breathing difficulty, unusual weakness, a persistent high fever or another worrying symptom.
